Week 10
The midweek fixtures of Week 10, involved all clubs in a full programme in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League. There were games between teams at the top of the division as well as games at the bottom of the division. There was one match postponed because of floodlight failure, this being at the "Lair" Lingfield at home to AFC Varndeanians.
AFC Uckfield Town V Eastbourne Utd AFC (27th September)
Eastbourne Utd AFC went into an early lead with a goal by Sam Cole. AFC Uckfield Town fought back and caused a defensive error which enabled George Cook to level the score with a "bullet" header. In the second half Max Thompson put the away side into the lead with a glancing header and in added time Max Thomson scored again and secured a 3-1 away win for Eastbourne Utd AFC which moved the team into second place in the division.

Eastbourne Town V Crowborough Athletic (27th September)
Eastbourne Town at home to Crowborough Athletic was full of effort and chances but lacked a goal. The game ended 0-0 with a point to both sides.

Hassocks V Broadbridge Heath (27th September)
Broadbridge Heath were away to Hassocks and the action started from the kick-off. Lewis Croal scored first for the "Bears" which was equalised soon after by Liam Benson with a header. Then Jack Troak missed a penalty for the "Robins" but Jack Troak made amends just before half-time with a rocket shot of a goal. In the second half, Tyler Symonds levelled the score but then the "Bears" went ahead as Lewis Croal scored his second goal. The final goal came from Liam Benson as the competitive and fair game ended in a 3-3 draw with a useful point to both sides.

Little Common V Peacehaven & Tels (27th September)
Jamie Bunn and Lewis Parsons both scored in the first half which gave the home side Little Common the lead at half time over visitors Peacehaven and Telscombe. All the pressure and chances were coming to the visitors in the second half and finally Harry Docherty pulled a goal back as his cross found the back post of the goal. This goal was not enough to deny a very excitable Little Common a 2-1 home victory over Peacehaven and Telscombe.

Loxwood V Horsham YMCA (27th September)
Horsham YMCA started the season well but are now struggling for points and hoped for some reward from their visit to Loxwood. YMCA started well when Tom Tolfrey rounded the goalkeeper to score. Clyde Jaques put the home side level when he made contact with a cross from Charlie Gibson. In the second half, YMCA had the chance to win but missed two penalties. A cross from Devon Fender was collected by Jay Popham to put the "Magpies" into the lead. Towards the end of the game, Zain Begg on his senior debut scored and then Zain Begg scored his second by putting away a cross from Devon Fender. The final goal confirmed a 4-1 home victory for Loxwood over Horsham YMCA which moved them three places away from the bottom of the division.

Newhaven V Bexhill United (27th September)
A close range header by Lucas Franzen-Jones put Newhaven into the lead at halftime in their game at home to Bexhill Utd. In the second half, Alfie Rogers converted a penalty to increase the lead and then as the game came to the final whistle, Henry Watson scored as his effort went in off the post. Newhaven maintained their position as division leaders with a good 3-0 home win over Bexhill Utd who had played well all game.

Roffey V Alfold (27th September)
The match-up of the bottom club Roffey at home to next to bottom club Alfold was one to watch. Greg Hearn put Alfold ahead midway through the first half. Luke Baldwin made the score level in the second half when he put a corner ball into the net with his head. The final goal came mid-way into the second half with a great strike from Charlie Martin to give Alfold a 2-1 away win over Roffey in an exciting end to end game.

Saltdean United V Crawley Down Gatwick (27th September)
After a few early minutes, Marc Pelling scored for Crawley Down Gatwick to take the lead over home side Saltdean Utd. Rhys White scored a few minutes later to give the "Anvils" a healthy lead at half time. Michael Wood scored in the second half and the scoring was completed when Sam Clements converted a penalty. Crawley Down Gatwick came away with a 4-0 away victory over Saltdean Utd and remained in fourth place in the division.

Steyning Town V Midhurst & Easebourne (27th September)
An over hit back pass crept into the net for an own goal and the lead going to Steyning Town in their home match against visitors Midhurst and Easebourne. Jack Barnes then scored with a cross or was it a shot into the top corner to give the "Barrowmen" a good lead at half time. In the second half a fine move was completed by Grant Radmore to increase the lead. Then Jack Langford scored with a twenty five yard chip over the entire defence. Midhurst and Easebourne pulled a goal back in the dying minutes but could not prevent Steyning Town recording a 4-1 home win Midhurst and Easebourne. With four wins in a row, Steyning Town moved up to fifth in the division. The game was fast paced and whole hearted, well managed by the officials and played in a good spirit with no cards.

Week 10, On a sunny and very windy Saturday afternoon after a Friday of continuous rain, all clubs were involved in a full programme of fixtures in the Premier Division of the Southern Combination Football League. AFC Varndeanians V Bexhill United (1st October)
Late in the first half, an Own Goal from a vicious corner was headed into the goal by a Bexhill Utd defender to give homeside AFC Varndeaians the lead at halftime. The lead was doubled early in the second half by Mark Goldson when he broke out in a counter-attack, got behind the defence and scored at the second attempt. Bexhill Utd pulled a goal back through Jamie Thoroughgood in the final minutes of the second half but could not stop AFC Varndeanians from getting an important 2-1 home victory..

Broadbridge Heath V Horsham YMCA (1st October)
Early in the first half, the home side Broadbridge Heath took full advantage of slow reactions by Horsham YMCA who allowed Charlie Parminter to chop inside the defence and comfortably put the home side ahead at half time. Midway through the second half, Archie Goddard was fouled in the penalty box and the resulting penalty was converted by Dean Lovegrove by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. A hard fought game with signs of improvement for YMCA as both teams get a point from a 1-1 draw..

Crowborough Athletic V Newhaven (1st October)
Crowborough Athletic welcomed division leaders Newhaven to the Community Stadium and after some hard work took the lead in the first half with a goal from Harvey Killick when he collected the ball outside the box, turned and unleashed a pin-point shot into the top left corner of the goal. Newhaven fought back and just before halftime, Marun Ruda levelled the score. With plenty of chances to both sides in the second half but no more goals, a 1-1 draw was a fair result which kept Newhaven as division leaders..

Eastbourne Utd AFC V Crawley Down Gatwick (1st October)
A very important game was played at the "Oval" where second placed Eastbourne Utd AFC were playing at home to fourth place Crawley Down Gatwick. With both sides exerting considerable pressure, Crawley Down Gatwick took the lead in the first half with a goal by Sam Clements. Despite the best efforts of both teams there were no more goals in the second half and the game ended in a 1-0 away victory for Crawley Down Gatwick. After this result. Eastbourne Utd AFC drop down to fifth place and Crawley Down Gatwick move up to second place in the division..

Lingfield V Eastbourne Town (1st October)
Lingfield suffered a heavy home defeat by opponents Eastbourne Town who recorded a 4-0 away victory with goals from Fletcher Holman who scored twice and one each from Frankie Chappell and Ronnie Galt. With this result, Eastbourne Town moved three places up the division and Lingfield moved two places down the division..

Little Common V Saltdean United (1st October)
Straight from the kick-off, Saltdean Utd took the lead against home side Little Common. A beautiful corner by Alfie Edmeads was tapped in by William Berry to record his first goal for his club. Saltdean Utd kept the lead until the final few minutes of the second half when Sammy Bunn scored which made the final score a 1-1 draw..

Loxwood V Hassocks (1st October)
A few seconds before the halftime break, Loxwood went behind in their home game against Hassocks when Philip Johnson collected a pull back pass from Jack Troak to tap the ball into the goal. In the second half, Jack Troak squandered the opportunity to increase the lead when he missed a penalty after a foul on Harvey Blake. Towards the end of the game,Patrick Harding managed to break through the home defence and score with a shot into the top corner of the goal. This goal led to a 2-0 away win for Hassocks and a three place movement up the division..

Peacehaven & Tels V AFC Uckfield Town (1st October)
Peacehaven and Telscombe had a bad day at the office when they played a home game against AFC Uckfield Town. The "Oakmen" went ahead early in the first half when a close range strike from Leon Wright found the goal. Just minutes before halftime Archie Carey doubled the lead with a thunderous header. The strong performance from the visitors continued early in the second half with another header from Archie Carey. With Peacehaven and Telscombe down to eight players with players in the "Sin Bin'', AFC Uckfield Town were awarded a penalty which was saved, however only a few minutes later they were awarded another penalty which was converted by Ellison Wright. A great performance by everybody earned AFC Uckfield Town a 4-0 away victory..

Roffey V Midhurst & Easebourne (1st October)
Roffey are still looking for their first points of the season but the chances did not get any easier as Midhurst and Easebourne were the visitors this saturday. Two goals in the first half put the "Stags" into the lead which they consolidated in the second half with three more goals. Two goals by Jordan Warner and one each from Liam Dreckmann, Charles Osborne and Harry Giles secured a 5-1 away victory for Midhurst and Easebourne even though Roffey did score a single consolation goal well into added time..

Steyning Town V Alfold (1st October)
After only a few minutes of the game at home to Alfold on the 3G pitch, Steyning Town took the lead when Jack Langford converted a penalty after Dayvarn Downer was fouled. The "Barrowmen" were then punished for a slow start as Alfold made a good move to equalise with a goal by Charlie Martin. Steyning Town retook the lead through Jack Langford with a jinking run to put the home side ahead at halftime. Early in the second half, Alfold again equalised with a penalty converted by Charlie Martin at the second attempt. The first attempt was ruled out due to some home players encroachment into the penalty area. The winning goal was scored very late in added time by debutant Kit Goddard with a close range header. Steyning Town had a great 3-2 home win over Alfold and moved into fourth place in the division.
